WE x SUJI: Cover for Coffee Roaster

Indonesia has a rich heritage of coffee production. WE x SUJI wanted to honor this heritage by materializing it in their Mini Coffee Roaster.

Atumics (formerly called Navetta Design Studio) partnered with WE x SUJI to explore the possibilities of such design. After a joint effort, Adhi Nugraha and his design team ended up creating special heat covers for the roaster. Heat covers serve an important purpose for the protection of the user and are also a central part of the visual appearance.

The patterns of the heat covers take inspiration from different coffee producing areas in Indonesia. Traditional patterns and cultural references were used in the making of such patterns, honoring the origins of coffee beans commonly enjoyed by coffee enthusiasts. Areas that were used as inspiration for these patterns were Parahayangan, Flores, Toraja and Cendrawasih to name a few.

WE x SUJI project is a prime example of integrating traditional and cultural references into modern design. The value of special heat covers extends now beyond only visual pleasure and touches people through pride in their Indonesian heritage. For these values, WE x SUJI is able to stand out in the market and price their products with a premium.
